My Vaping Notes [MAIN]
For those getting beyond the basics of vaping and starting with mods, there is a lot to learn. The differences in mods, volts vs watts, juices, rebuildables, batteries types and safety, tanks, coils types and ohms. So I am not an expert but i do my research and while there are tons of sites and videos out there, this should make it easier for many to learn quickly and not spend as much time searching for the answers. Read these links, watch these videos and the bulk of your questions should be answered.
I am not in this business and not an expert (I'm an IT Consultant) so if something I said here is wrong please let me know (just don't nitpick every little thing please.)

Also, I have to say... I am not an expert, i am not saying vaping is safe nor do I know any more than i have read and watched online. If you're a cigarette smoker, i think you're crazy as it DOES cause cancer (I lost multiple family members to it). Switch to vaping as i must be many times safer even if there are some health risks. What's in most e-juice is food grade and deemed safe to consume orally, the question is, is it safe to breath into your lungs and thats what is still unknown. Either way, I am just compiling information, My disclaimer is do this at your own risk.

Mods - The device you use to vape with.

The E-Cig or Mod you use I guess depends on how into it you want to get, how much you want to spend, and how much you want to enjoy it.
The device itself can be bought for around $20 in most stores these days which have a rechargeable cigarette like device and a tank on top to put the fluid in.
(I am not talking about the e-cigs that you buy replaceable tips that that have some fluid in them then you throw away, thats for people trying to quit smoking those who buy one on impulse like I first did. Skip that step or like I did, you will probably quickly throw it away and move on to the next level.)
Great to start with, simply... on/off, basic volts settings and vape button.
Start with this if you have never done this before as its cheap and a great way to learn.
(picture is without a tank on it)

Next step up is something like this Innokin Itaste VV.
Its a step up because unlike the first one above which you control the power mechanically by turning a dial, this one is electronic in that it has a computer controlled circuit and display. You can choose volts or watts (next sections explains that), you can recharge it with a standard cell phone micro USB charger and it just has more options to control the experience. These are only about $30

The next level which is what many who love vaping will want are what is typically called a “mod”. Mod just means MODified as in a basic e-cig... Modified. More at
http://www.sweetvapes.com/Pages/descriptiveterms.aspx

So where the above ones might to to 5 or 10 watts of power, the next level can usually go higher. More power, better tanks, better fluid, all together means better taste and a better experience.

These are some of the next level Mods:

They might be rechargeable by a Micro USB cable or often take 18650 batteries, that you remove, recharge and reuse. They can go to 20, 30 or 50 watts. (Beyond that i think is the next level which I am not at nor want and is for those hard core vapers)
Heavier in the hand, smokes longer, better experience
.

Volts vs Watts
Knowing this will GREATLY improve your experience. Understanding how it works is first, then experimenting and watching videos is what i recommend to learn how to figure out what works for you.

First, this guy appears crazy but explains it well. Does nice reviews, subscribe to his YouTube channel for other vaping info...

Batteries - If your mod uses replaceable batteries - what’s best and safe to use.
When you use a mod that requires batteries that you take out to charge (18350 & 18650 typically) there are things you should know. Which to use, milliamp hours, types, etc. Not only will they last longer when you use the right battery but they will also be safer if they are the proper type.
Most important thing i have learned if you are using a mod that uses 18350 or 18650 batteries, use IMR batteries only. Preferably Sony but they should say IMR on them. No LS or LC as these can leak or even explode when the electronic circuitry in a mod is trying to use them. Those are good for flashlights.

Great read that explains a lot:

Tanks & Coils - The tanks to hold your juice

There are A LOT of options out there for tanks. The main factors are, the coil, the capacity of juice it holds and if it has air flow control or not.
There are many $3 small tanks like this one. They work. don't hold much juice and in a small e-cig work fine. More powerful better mods burn through juice faster and these have no air flow control and cheap coils so the taste and experience is not great. Good for beginners not wanting to spend more than a few bucks. Its important to note that these “510” tanks as they are called can work on any standard device i am showing here. All these tanks are interchangeable on any of these devices.

Then you might want to move up to a better tank. Maybe $8-$10, usually metal, possibly glass tank instead of plastic. Better quality coil.

The next level of tanks are metal, glass and much better coils. Holds much more juice, tastes better, changeable tips (allowing better feel and air control) and usually have a way to control the draw or air flow.
These can be found for as little as $5 but usually in the $20-$35 range for a decent one. You buy extra coils at about $3 and change them maybe every 1-3 weeks depending on how much you vape. Once you get more experienced and enjoy vaping more this is what you want. You can buy coils for the first two types but don't know if its even worth it.

There is a level beyond this which I am not at, nor will be at, nor will most people ever go to. That is called dripping. These are tanks in which you don't fill the fluid, but you make your own coils with wire and cotton and drop some juice onto and then vape. They say the taste is better, smoke production is much greater and for many its just a great hobby. I am not at this level nor do I plan to get there. I don't want that much work. Most people will want to put some flavor juice in a tank, pop it on and enjoy it.

Juice - The fluid used in your tanks.
There is just about every flavor imaginable out there. There are hundreds if not thousands of companies (or just individuals) making juice these days. These are the flavors you use. You can get tobacco flavors, fruits, custom flavors that people give names to but have no identifiable flavor (some a quite good).
The thing to know is that they should contain basically 3 or 4 ingredients. LG, PG, Flavoring and Nicotine.

The obvious... Nicotine. You can get juice with 0mg up to 24mg (maybe even more, i don't know). I’ve read a typical cigarette in the U.S. contains about 9mg but I am not sure.
You can just get 0mg but sometimes you find the smoke it too smooth and the nicotine actually makes it more enjoyable. I like 2mg. Important to know from my research, Nicotine does not cause cancer. The tar in cigarettes is what causes cancer. Nicotine is addictive but they say its on about the same level as caffeine.

Flavoring... This is the questionable part. We hope that reputable companies are using the safest ingredients. Most seem to use food flavorings like these:
http://www.ecigexpress.com/diy-e-liquid/diy-e-liquid-flavors.html
but since its an unregulated business at this time, you just don't know.

What is LG and PG? I won’t explain it, its been done...go here:

After reading this, my best suggestion is go to the youtubers above and watch a bunch of their videos. There are many others, some of these people are over the top, but I think those 4 guys are the best on YouTube right now and give good information. Enjoy!

My mod progression:

First was a cheap single use $6 disposable but after that...

Crown Seven

eonsmoke (does not use the same 510 standard connector so quickly moved on...)

Spinner II (First that allowed variable voltage by a mechanical dial on the bottom)

Itaste VV (First digitally controlled variable volts and watts up to 11w - great device, still use sometimes)

Vamo V5 15w(Currently Use - Solid, nice device, must use 18350 or 18650 rechargeable  batteries. Nice device but large)

Eleaf iStick 30Watt (Currently Use - more power, very small, micro USB recharable)
